Samuel W. Culbertson founded Marysville in 1819 and named it for his daughter Mary. The village was incorporated in 1840, and the city goes by the Shaded City. Honda's Marysville Auto Plant opened in 1982, and Scotts Miracle-Gro, founded in 1868, has its headquarters here. US-33 runs through town as a four-lane highway.

Large employers mean offices, cafeterias and delivery docks nearby, and the restaurants that serve them take daily deliveries. The Union County Fair runs from late July to early August, when wasp nests are growing fast, so check sheds, playsets and eaves before the crowds arrive.
