Lithopolis is known for the Wagnalls Memorial library, but the pest story is about its houses. The typical home here was built in 2004 and only 14% are rented, so this is mostly owner-occupied suburban-style housing where ants, wasps and mice are the main calls.

Newer builds near the Wagnalls Memorial: why ants show up first

The median Lithopolis home dates to 2004 (ACS 2019-23). A house that young is tight, but not tight enough. Builders leave soil freshly graded, mulch beds sit against the siding and landscaping holds moisture next to the foundation, and ants treat all of that as an invitation.

A perimeter treatment, which is a band of product applied around the outside of the house along the foundation, usually does more for ants than spraying the ones in your kitchen. Our page on ant control covers the species we see and how follow-up works.

Columbus Street, a stone library and a village that tripled in size

Lithopolis began as Centerville, laid out in 1815, and was renamed for the nearby stone deposits (Wikipedia). The Wagnalls Memorial Library at 150 E. Columbus St was built from local freestone and dedicated on May 30, 1925. The village had 600 residents in 2000, 1,106 in 2010 and 2,134 in 2020.

That growth explains the pest picture. A compact historic center sits around the library, and most of the rest is housing built in the last twenty-five years, with freshly graded lots, young trees and new mulch beds. A house in the old center and a 2004 two-story have different foundations, so we inspect each for what it actually has.

The new lots matter for scheduling too. Ants and wasps peak between May and September, so a call placed in April about last year's trails gets the outside treated before the colony is established.

Wasps under the eaves of two-story Lithopolis houses

Newer two-story houses have deep soffits, vented eaves and covered porches, all places where paper wasps and hornets start nests in spring. A nest the size of a golf ball in May can be far larger by late summer.

Stay a safe distance from any nest and keep kids and pets back. Our notes on wasp nest removal explain when a nest is worth leaving alone and when it is not.

Pest control services Lithopolis homeowners use

Ant ControlFresh landscaping and mulch against 2000s foundations is the classic setup for ant trails, and a village that grew from 1,106 people in 2010 to 2,134 in 2020 has many young foundations still settling.Stinging Insect RemovalSoffits and porch ceilings on newer two-story homes collect wasp and hornet nests by midsummer, and a nest started in May is usually much larger by August, so early checks pay off.Rodent ControlMice enter through small gaps at garage doors and utility lines even in a house built in the 2000s, and the first cold nights of fall are when those gaps get used.Rodent ProofingNewer houses with a median build year of 2004 are tight but not sealed, so closing garage-door seams and pipe penetrations early stops mice before the first cold snap.Spider ControlWindow wells, garage corners and the deep eaves of two-story houses hold webs, and the egg sacs of a spider can stay hidden on the soffit until the following spring.Pest Exclusion & SealingUtility lines, dryer vents and the gap under a garage door are the weak points in a 2000s build, and sealing them helps against mice, ants and spiders together.Recurring Pest Control PlansWith only 14% of homes rented, most Lithopolis households own what they treat, and a seasonal schedule that treats the outside before the pests arrive suits owner-occupied homes.One-Time Pest TreatmentA single wasp nest or one ant season does not need a plan, and a one-time visit from Dunning Rd lets a Lithopolis owner decide on follow-up after seeing the result.

Scheduling a 30 minute trip from Dunning Rd

Tell us the address and what you have found. Because Lithopolis is a half hour out, we can usually fit a stop into a run through the southeast side, and same-day visits are possible when the schedule allows. We ask about allergies, pets and kids at each visit and plan around the answers.

The price follows the type and extent of the problem, and you hear it before any work begins. Follow-up visits are biweekly, monthly, bimonthly or as needed, depending on what we find.

Lithopolis within the Canal Winchester and Pickerington circle

Boydes has worked central Ohio since 1990, and the villages southeast of Columbus are a familiar part of our map. Lithopolis is 19 miles from the shop, and Canal Winchester, Pickerington, Groveport, Carroll and Blacklick Estates are all on our list of covered towns.

A median house from 2004 and a 14% rental share describe a village of newer owner-occupied homes. That puts most of the work outside the house in spring and summer, so tell us when you first saw the ants or wasps and where.

Pest control in Lithopolis: common questions

Why do ants keep returning to my Lithopolis house even after I spray?

Spraying the ants you see leaves the nest alone, and a house built in the 2000s often has landscaping and moisture right at the foundation. A perimeter treatment plus a follow-up visit goes after the trails and the colony source. Tell us what the ants look like and where you found them, and we will plan from there.

Do you service the newer subdivisions in Lithopolis?

Yes. We work on homes of every age in Lithopolis, and newer houses have their own pest pattern: ants at landscaped foundations, wasps under deep eaves and mice at garage seams. Give us your address when you call, and we will check how soon we can get there, since the trip from Dunning Rd runs about 30 minutes.

Can I set up recurring service in Lithopolis instead of calling each time?

Yes. Many owner-occupied homes do well on a recurring schedule, and with 14% of Lithopolis homes rented, most callers own the house they treat. Visits run monthly, bimonthly or as needed after we inspect. You can also book a single visit and decide later. Our page on recurring pest control lays out what each visit covers.
