How Much Does Pest Control Cost in Columbus, OH?
Pest control cost in Columbus swings widely because the pest sets the price more than the zip code does. Two third-party estimates, covered below and labeled as estimates, put a single visit somewhere between about $90 and $605.

Neither number is our quote. We price each job after we know the pest, the size of the problem and the home, and we explain the price before any work starts.
What do outside estimates say pest control costs in Columbus?
Published price guides give a starting frame, nothing more. They average many companies, many pests and many house sizes into one range. Treat the figures below as estimates from third parties, not as what any one company charges.
| Source | Date | Range shown | What it describes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pest control price aggregator | 2026 | $90 to $550 | One-time visit in Columbus |
| CityCostData | December 2025 | $99 to $605 | Cost per visit in Columbus |
The spread inside each range is the real lesson. A visit for a few ants on a kitchen counter and a visit for a house with mice in two walls share a category on paper and almost nothing in practice.

What moves the price of a pest control job?
Most quotes come down to the same handful of variables. Knowing them lets you tell a fair number from a vague one.
- The pest. A single wasp nest is usually one visit. Bed bugs and German cockroaches need a course of visits, and rodents need the entry points found and closed.
- How far it has spread. A problem caught in one room costs less than one that has moved through a whole building.
- Size and layout. More square footage, more units or a cluttered basement means more time and more product.
- Access. Crawl spaces, tight attics and locked mechanical rooms slow the work.
- Number of visits. A treatment with scheduled follow-ups is priced differently from a single stop.
- Prep and repairs. Laundry, clearing floors and sealing gaps either fall on you or get added to the job.
Why does an older Columbus home cost more to treat?
Census ACS data counts roughly 188,000 Columbus homes built before 1978, about 45% of the city's units. Original vents, settled foundations and crowded basements usually mean more entry points to find and close. That link between age and price is our read from the trade, not a published figure. A tight newer house with one ant trail is a shorter job.
Does renting change who pays for pest control?
It can. Columbus Public Health puts pest elimination in a building with two or more units on the owner, not the tenant. Before a tenant books a paid treatment for a building-wide problem, send the landlord written notice with dated photos. Our post on who pays for pest control in an Ohio rental lays out the steps.
What does a pest control fee actually pay for?
A fair price covers more than the product. It pays for the inspection that finds where the pest lives, the time to treat cracks, voids and entry points properly, and the travel to your door. It should also cover the notes you get afterward, since written documentation after an inspection is how you track what was found.
That is why a quote that only names a product tells you little. Two companies can use similar materials and still deliver different jobs, because one spent an hour looking and the other spent ten minutes spraying.
Is one-time or recurring pest control cheaper?
One-time service costs less on the day, and it fits a single, contained problem. Recurring service costs more over a year but spreads the bill into smaller payments and keeps a pest from rebuilding between visits. The cheaper choice is the one that matches your pest.
Our one-time pest control visits suit things like a nest or a short ant trail. Our recurring pest control plans run biweekly, monthly, bimonthly or as needed, depending on what you are managing. We lay out the full decision in one-time vs recurring pest control.
What should a pest control quote spell out?
A good quote reads like a scope of work, not a number on a card. Here is what each line tells you about the total you will really pay:
| Line to look for | What it tells you | What it does to the total |
|---|---|---|
| The pest, named | The company identified it instead of guessing | A wrong guess means a repeat visit you pay for |
| Visit count | One stop or a course of visits | Follow-ups priced in or added later |
| Entry points | Whether sealing is in the job | Treatment without exclusion can mean the pest returns |
| Your prep | What you must do before the visit | Laundry and clearing floors save labor time |
| Return terms | What happens if the pest comes back | Re-treatment may or may not be covered, so read the wording |
One more check costs nothing. Ohio requires any company applying pesticides for hire to hold an ODA Pesticide Business License, and the Ohio Department of Agriculture runs a public lookup for it. Search the company name before you pay a deposit.
Which pests take more than one visit?
Anything that breeds inside the walls of your home usually takes a plan rather than a single stop. Eggs hatch after the first treatment, and that is why follow-ups are part of the cost.
- Bed bugs: a residual course over 4 to 6 weeks, or a heat treatment, each with its own prep.
- Cockroaches: German cockroaches reproduce fast and need return visits to catch each hatch.
- Mice and rats: treatment plus sealing the openings they came through.

How do you compare pest control quotes fairly?
Two quotes only compare when they describe the same work. Put the same questions to each company:
- Which pest do you think this is, and how did you decide?
- How many visits are included, and what do follow-ups cost?
- Does the price cover sealing entry points, or only treatment?
- How do I get ready before you arrive?
- What happens if the pest comes back, and is that in writing?

How we price a job at the shop
We do not post a price list, because an honest number needs a look at the problem. What we do is explain the price before work starts, so nothing shows up on the invoice that was not discussed. Customers describe the pricing as fair with no surprise charges, which is the standard we try to hold.
When you call, tell us the pest, where you see it and how long it has been going on. We also ask about pets, kids and allergies, since that shapes the plan. If a phone conversation is enough to give you a range, you get one, and if it is not, we say so rather than guess.
Be cautious of any quote that skips the question of follow-up visits. A low first price that leaves out the return trips is often the more expensive route.
There are jobs where a quote is not worth chasing. A lone ant in spring, or one spider in a corner of the basement, rarely justifies a visit. Bait stations from the hardware store handle a short ant trail, and a vacuum handles the spider. Call when the same pest shows up in the same place for a week, or when you see droppings.
There are also jobs where guessing gets expensive. Bed bugs are the clearest, because a failed first attempt gives the population time to spread, and a pest company's course of visits then covers more rooms. Mice work the same way. Traps without sealing catch the ones inside and leave the door open.
Price can move after the first look. If we find more entry points than the phone call suggested, we tell you before we do the extra work, and you decide. That is how the price stays explained before work starts.
Related questions
Why can't a pest company give an exact price over the phone?
Because the same pest can mean very different jobs. A phone call tells us the pest and the rough size, but not the access, the clutter or the entry points. We can often give you a range after the call, then confirm the figure once we have seen the space and before any work begins.
Do follow-up visits cost extra?
It depends on how the job is set up, which is why you should ask before you agree. Some treatments are planned as a course of visits and priced that way. Others are single stops with return visits added only if needed. We explain which kind you are getting before the work starts.
Is the lowest pest control quote the right one?
Not automatically. A low number may leave out follow-ups, sealing or the inspection that finds the cause. Compare quotes line by line, asking what each includes and what happens if the pest returns. A slightly higher price that covers the whole job often costs less than a cheap fix repeated twice.
Is a monthly pest control plan cheaper per visit than a one-time visit?
Not always, and the answer depends on what each visit includes. A plan spreads the cost across scheduled visits, while a first visit often carries the inspection and the sealing advice. Ask for the per-visit figure and the yearly total in writing. For one nest or one ant trail, a single visit costs less than a year of visits you do not need.
Cost is easiest to pin down once someone has looked at the problem. If you live in Columbus or elsewhere in Franklin County, call (209) 563-1650 and describe what you are seeing. You can also read about our approach to pest control in Columbus before you decide.
